Skjor is a town in southwestern Umbria, walled by stone and overlooking a waterfall in the Silfrost River. It has a population of about 2000, mostly Esgierden who migrated into these lands about two centuries ago. However, there are a few hundred Umbrians and a few hundred Ossiri among them, as well as frequent dwarven visitors. The Skjori are fair skinned, with blue eyes and blonde hair (with a few redheads among them), making them stand out against the darker-haired Umbrians. Where the native Umbrians are a dour, dry-humored people, the Skjori are loud, lusty, and boisterous even in times of distress. Both men and women wear broad daggers at their belts, and even the poorest man also bears a hand-axe which serves as both tool and weapon.
The ruler of Skjor is Jarl Arnsun, son of Dowid, a man of iron will and fierce temper, but also fair-minded and respected by all within Skjor. He respects freelance adventurers and sellswords and offers good pay and positions as “carls” (knights) to those who serve him and his city well.
Being both a gateway between the Ossiri and Umbria and controlling the many mineral deposits in Skjor’s Rift and the Whitefang Highlands, Skjor is a city of wealth despite its “barbarian” reputation. Most residents wear thick woolen coats lined with fur against and can afford the fuel for large hearthfires against the cold. Though merchants accept both Umbrian and Imperial coins, most residents wear hackmetal jewelry with which they trade.
